6 Easy Steps On Starting a Blog
Congratulations of finding me! I’m so happy to help you start your blogging journey.
I know that you have been searching the internet on the best way to start a blog and I will help build your foundation – and explain in simple terms.
When I first started blogging, I searched all over the web and quickly became frustrated and overwhelmed.
I’ll do my best to show you the way! I will do a step by step tutorial and then I will link to more in depth information to help your knowledge growth.
So let’s start with the 6 basic steps on your blogging journey…
Here are the 6 steps:
I will keep things really simple so that you will understand the basics of setting up a blog, so that you won’t be overwhelmed.
Then, as you understand the basics and crave more in depth skills, you can follow my other blogs.
#1. Pick Your Niche
This is probably the first step that people quit on because they don’t know how to pick a niche or not able to decide what to write about.
Just focus on what your passion is and use some of the web tools that help you decide.
#2: Pick your Domain Name
I’ll make is it simple for you! Go to Namecheap.com and use your own name. If you have a common name, then use some type of alternative like MikeABSmith.com.
The idea here is to just get started and you can always change your URL. You will see many bloggers use their own name so don’t spend too much time on this. Again, you can always purchase another Domain Name and change your blog name.
#3: Choose Your Blogging Platform
I wouldn’t mess around researching different Blogging Platforms since there is really only one that is used by many professional Bloggers: WordPress.org (note, not WordPress.com)
#4: Choose Your Website Hosting and Theme
I have used various Hosting Companies and straight and to the point, the best one in my opinion is WPX.net. Take your blog seriously and go with the best right off the bat.
You won’t want to chose a cheap Hosting Company and have problems with service and speed. I will also list other Hosting Companies in my other blog. I will say that I used Hostgator.com when I first started and this company gave really good service and had reliable hosting.
#5: Get
Familiar with Your Platform
Practice makes perfect right? Well, if you are going to be a blogger, then you will need to take a little bit of time to learn how to post to your site. I’ll blog a tutorial but for now, youtube has many wonderful gurus.
#6: Start Writing Content
Gotta start somewhere! Just get on it and write. The beauty of Blogs is that they can easily be updated, deleted, rewritten, etc. So avoid analysis paralysis and just blog it! You Can Do It!
